First 2018 Winner: Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation

A couple months ago, the subject of the SJ Marketing blog was the importance of being authentic in corporate philanthropy. We took the opportunity to talk about SJ’s holiday 2017 “You’ve Been Givted” campaign, when, instead of getting gifts themselves, we asked our clients to choose local charities that we would “givt” in the clients’ names.

Our clients felt good. The charities felt good. And the SJ Marketing team felt authentically great! So, we asked ourselves, “Why stop now?”

#GetGivted All Year

It made sense that supporting local charities shouldn’t be confined to the holiday season. Granted, SJ Marketing doesn’t have millions to donate like the Gates Foundation or Salesforce.org. But (we’re going to pat ourselves on the back a little here) we came up with a plan to give what we can to a different charity every quarter in cash and in-kind while flexing our digital marketing muscle.

For example in March, SJ Marketing used email and social media to motivate readers to vote for their favorite of three charities. The winner, the Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation, received $150 from us with, hopefully, more donations to come as we spread the word in April and May about their work.

Who is Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation and why are we excited to help them?

RAVE stands for Respite And Volunteer Experience. The respite is much needed by the parents with special needs kids. And Reno-Tahoe teens get the volunteer experience and the satisfaction of helping others who can really use a break. RAVE support includes a family center, respite voucher program and free training for the volunteers.

What RAVE does is invaluable and inspiring.

“Before RAVE, my days were full of stress, anxiety, and other emotions,” said Niechole S., a parent in Reno. “Having a child with disabilities is tough. So to be able to get a break is so helpful. RAVE truly saved my relationship with my daughters and has brought us closer.”

But the need is great. There are over 9,000 children in Northern Nevada that have been diagnosed with a special need.
